She's a Doll!
John "Johnny" Barton Gruelle created the first Raggedy Ann doll in 1914 in Indiana. He made the doll as a gift for his daughter Marcella. When he saw how much his daughter liked the doll, he decided to make more Raggedy Ann dolls so other little girls could enjoy them. Raggedy Ann became popular with little girls all over the U.S. Raggedy Ann and Marcella even became characters in the children's books "The Adventures of Raggedy Ann and Andy."
