Sad Story

The U.S. government passed a law in 1830 that said all Native American groups had to move to reservations west of the Mississippi River.  In 1838, more than 800 of Indiana's Potawatomi Indians were rounded up by federal troops and led on a 900-mile march to a reservation in Kansas.  About 150 Potawatomis' died on the journey now known as the Trail of Death.
