Grand Central!

Many Hoosiers were against slavery.  Wayne County was known as the Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad.  Members of the Underground Railroad were people who secretly helped slaves escape to freedom.  Not everyone in Indiana agreed with helping slaves escape.  Indiana passed a law in 1850 that made it illegal to help an escaped slave.
