John Mellencamp is an American singer and songwriter who had many hits in the 1980's.  He is also known for helping American farmers.  In 1985 he helped organize Farm Aid, a yearly benefit concert that features famous music stars and raises money for family farmers in the United States.  When John first began performing he used the name John Cougar, but he later went back to his birth name.  John was born in 1951 in Seymour, Indiana.
