Take notes: 

1. Find the most important 3 main points in your article.

2. For each main point, note 2 supporting facts. These should NOT be minor details.

Remember...

• a summary should cover the whole of the article, so look for your main points in the beginning, middle, and end
• a summary is in your own words
• summaries are presented without bias (don't give your opinion about the author's message)
