Writing Research Questions: Narrowing Your Topic

  1. Choose your topic or use the one given to you by your teacher.
  2. Brainstorm subcategories of your topic.
  3. Choose Google or Topic Finder.  See the examples for each below.
    1. With Google, pen, & paper:
      1. Do a Google Search for background topic information. My (quick) example:

    2. Or, use Topic Finder.
      1. Open Topic Finder (MackinVIA databases > Google PowerSearch) and search your topic there. My example:

  4. Decide on your narrowed topic. 
    1. For the sake of this module, I've decided my narrowed topic is government control during a pandemic.
