Course description

This is a self-paced class. The main purpose of the course is to explore basic music theory, vocal health, vocal production and musicality

This course will assign basic theory, history as it pertains to our music and performance styles.  

Course Goals

  1. Students will be able to accurately identify and distinguish between whole steps and half steps, sharps and flats.
  2. Students will be able to accurately identify, and apply notes and rests in music math, following the time signature.
  3. Students will be able to distinguish between rhythm, time signatures and meters.
  4. Students will be able to use correct note and rest to form rhythms that correspond to its time signature.
  5. Students will be able to do music analysis by identifying key, time signature, rhythms and notes or rest found in the music chosen.  
  6. Using the course content, students will display proper vocal technique that is discusses in this course and in the classroom
  7. Perform a variety of music according to correct vocal pedagogy, style and performance.
  8.  Explain and demonstrate how much can be applied to real world situations.
  9.  Explain and/or critique various musical styles.

 

About the Instructor: 

 

Danielle Webb has been teaching music for over 25 years.  She spend 10 years teaching vocal and elementary music at Salamonie School,  4 years assisting with Huntington North High School Choirs underneath John Wenning and has spent the last 13 years as Choir Director at Riverview Middle School.  Over her 20 years at HCCSC she has produced musical productions like Shrek Jr,  Addams Family, Beauty and the Beast, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Annie, High School Musical jr., Pirates of Penzance,  Wizard of Oz,  Music Man jr,  and Bye Bye Birdie youth.  Riverview Middle School has received ISSMA  ALL MUSIC AWARD in 2016, 2017 and 2018.  Prior to teaching in HCCSC she spent time at Eastbrook Community and East All County Schools.   

Assessments

1. Quiz: There are quizzes in each module. You will have 2-3 attempts to retake each quiz. The highest score will be recorded. If the goal of each quiz is met, you will be award a badge. You can collect up to six badges. 

2. Test: You will choose one out of three sets of test to download, write and submit for grade.

TWO main performances will be Winter Concert and Spring Concert

Grading Policy
